Description
The
state of São Paulo has a priviledged sea coast, with numerous bays,
beautiful beaches, fishing and historical towns. The Atlantic forest and
the abundant marine life complete the beautiful scenery.
Below
we have a description from the main areas:
Ubatuba
Ubatuba
is located on the North coast of São Paulo state, with a big area of preserved Atlantic Forest. The area of
Ubatuba includes two State Parks (Serra do mar and
Ilha Anchieta), with many ecossystems represented- such as mangrooves,
beaches, rocky shoreline and forests, resulting in a great biodiversity,
both terrestrial and marine. Activities such as trekking on the many
trails, diving around the islands and surfing at the beaches with strong waves
are among the most popular. But Ubatuba also offers calm beaches and beautiful
scenery.
Ilha
Bela
As
the name says, Ilha Bela is a beautiful island. Inumerous protected bays,
many trails around its hills and waterfalls,
beautiful scenery and a tranquil pace of life make Ilha Bela a popular
destination. Famous among the sailors for a perfect wind situation, Ilha
Bela holds once a year the biggest Regatta in South America. It's equally
sought after by divers for its many shipwrecks and abundant marine life, and lovers of trekking
for the Atlantic Forest that covers most of the island. A short
ferry-boat crossing takes you from São Sebastião to Ilha Bela.
Santos
/ Guarujá
Santos
is the biggest city on the São Paulo coast, and also has the biggest
harbour in Brazil. The beaches are urbanized, and the historical center
has many old buildings and museums. It's connected to Rio by the famous
Rio- Santos road, a scenic drive that passes through the hilly sea coast of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro states.
Guarujá is a beach destination
popular among the paulistanos (people who live in São Paulo city). It's
urbanized and offers a complete infra-structure and animated nightlife during the
summer.
São
Sebastião / Bertioga
São
Sebastião is located just in front of Ilha Bela, in the continental part.
It has about 100 km of beaches, islands and bays for all tastes. It's on
the way of the Rio-Santos scenic road, with many excellent beaches and
sea-food restaurants. The historical center has many old buildings.
Bertioga
has about 40 km of beaches and many options of ecotourism in the Atlantic
forest and local rivers. Boat tours, waterfalls and treks are among the
attractions. Bertioga also has
the
fortress of São João, which is considered the oldest of Brazil (1547),
and indigenous tribes, where you can buy artcraft.
