Description
Located
in the state of Pernambuco, about 60 km from the capital Recife, is the
beach town Porto de Galinhas, a former slave trade clandestine harbor
named after the password and nickname given to slave
traffickers: Guinea Hens. Therefore, Porto de Galinhas (Hen's Harbor).
The natural
pools formed around the reefs, the clear and warm waters, the great
beaches for surfing and bathing and thousand of coconut trees are some of
the attractions of this village, making it a very popular destination
during the summer. The area surrounding it such as Cabo de Santo
Agostinho, Gaibu and Calhetas beaches, also offer stunning scenery and less
busy beaches and villages.

Relaxing on the beaches,
enjoying
the water-sports such as snorkeling on the natural pools (the local sail
boats- jangadas, take you there), shopping for local artcraft, eating the
local food, visiting the other beaches in the surrounding area and experiencing the busy nightlife are the main
activities.
