Equador
The
small country of Equador has an incredible diversity of landscapes. The vulcanoes, the Andes Cordillera, the pacific coast, the
jungle of the Amazon Forest, ruins of the Inca Empire and the Archipelago of
Galapagos are the main attractions of this country that is crossed by the line
separating the world in two hemispheres giving the name to the country.
Cities:
Quito and Cuenca
The capital Quito is a
beautiful and interesting city, with a preserved historical center, good
museums and parks and the Equator line a few quilometers away.
Cuenca
is located in the South and is probably the most beautiful city of Equador.
It was declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The many old buildings,
churches, museums and cobbled stone streets of the historical center, added
to the friendly and international atmosphere make Cuenca a fascinating city.
The
North
Just
90 km North of Quito is Otavalo, a small city surrounded by lagoons,
mountains and vulcanoes. Attractions include one of the biggest indigenous
markets of South America, tours to extinct vulcanoes, one in particular with
a big lagoon in its interior and visits tp indigenous communities nearby.
The
Center-South
The
area situated about 3 hours South from Quito has a small town called Baños
as its center. Baños is surrounded by vulcanoes, mountains, hot springs and
it is one of the gateways to the Amazon forest. Trekking to the top of
active vulcanoes, rafting in the rapids, horseriding along the base of the
vulcanoes, relaxing in the hot springs and tours to the Amazon Forest are
among the attractions.
Galapagos
The
Archipelago of Galapagos has
become one of the most desirable places for ecotourism in the planet,
due to its incredible fauna and flora, that became famous after
Charles Darwin´s visit in 1835. About 1/4 of the fish, half of the
plants and almost all reptiles of Galapagos can't be found anywhere
else on Earth.
