The islands of the National
Park of Abrolhos are located 65 km from the coast of Bahia and the city of
Caravelas. There are five islands plus the Reef Timbebas. Crystal clear
waters with temperatures between 24 to 28º C, create an ideal environment
for corals and fish to develop . Diving is excellent in
Abrolhos, and it's possible for both certified divers or begginers. The main
attraction from July to November is the arrival of the HumpBack Whales to
this area to mate and give birth. |

One
of the most beautiful beaches of Southern Brazil, Praia do Rosa is the breeding ground
of the Southern Right Whales. It
is situated 81 km South of Florianópolis. The water is cold in the winter
but the area is very beautiful and offers nature related activities such as
surfing, horse riding, hiking and whale watching. The
Southern Right Whales are found in Southern Brazil from July to November. Extensively hunted in
the past for oil and meat, they are now protected and a recuperation program is
undergoing.

The coastline is
inhabited by marine
mammals, like
sea lions,
elephant seals and
fur seals.
Southern right whales can be found in Golfo Nuevo and Golfo
San José, protected bodies of water located between the
peninsula and the
Patagonian mainland. These
baleen whales come here between May and December, for mating
and giving birth, because the water in the
gulf is quieter and warmer than in the open sea.
Orcas can be found off the coast, in the open sea off the
peninsula. In this area, they are known to beach themselves on
shore to capture sea lions and elephant seals. |

One
of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil, Rosa beach is the breeding ground
of the Southern Right Whales. Praia do Rosa, as it is locally called. It
is situated 81 km from Florianópolis, one of the most
popular destinations for ecotourism and beaches in Brazil. The average temperature in July is 20 C,
although cold days with chilly winds should be expected due to incoming
cold fronts. The average rainfall during winter is the lowest of the whole year,
bellow 90mm. The water is cold in the winter but the area is immensely beautiful and
offers excellent accommodation and nature related activities such as
surfing, horse riding, hiking and whale watching.

The
Southern Right Whales are found in Southern Brazil from July to November when they migrate to warmer waters in winter for breeding and
return to polar regions in the summer.
Extensively hunted in
the past for oil and meat, they are now protected by federal laws and a
recuperation program is undergoing.
The whales are easily
recognized by its callosities on the head and V shaped blow. They measure
between 14 - 17 meters and weight around 40-80 tones.

The
whalewatching trips are done with a 9 meters boat equipped with life
saving jackets, emergency inflatable boat and radio. It lasts about 3
hours and has land support, to spot the whales, and English speaking guide
biologist explanations.

The Vida Sol e Mar Inn will
provide charming and comfortable accommodation while you are visiting the
whales. Situated in a hill top The Inn offers swimming pool, bar and
restaurant. It is also possible to spot the whales from there.
Rooms are equipped with

The Inn is the base for
the Southern Right Whale Institute.
